Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus
Lazarus of Bethany in Judea, who was the brother of Martha and Mary, was very close to Jesus, who used to spend time in his home to rest, while he was being refreshed by the hospitable attentions of his sisters Martha and Mary.
Lazarus was resurrected by Jesus and, in memory of this predilection that the son of God had for him, every year the Christians of Jerusalem, on the eve of the Palms, used to go in procession to Bethany, listening to the passage from the Gospel of John where the resurrection of Lazarus is described in rich detail.
The Gospel narrative constitutes one of the most important points of the fourth Gospel, since the resurrection of Lazarus takes on the value of symbol and prophecy, seen as an anticipation of what will subsequently be the resurrection of Christ.
