The village of Ovindoli is located between the Velino and Sirente massifs.
In ancient times Ovindoli was a defensive settlement, then it was destroyed by the Romans and later rebuilt by the Lombards.
It is believed that the first housing nucleus was built around the tower and the fortification placed to defend the passage to the Vestine area and the Rocche plateau.
The ancient castle exercised a function of control and defense, above all thanks to its strategic and dominant geographical position with respect to the surrounding area.
What see
Currently Ovindoli constitutes a renowned ski resort with about 22 Km of slopes, it also offers the possibility to practice other sports, including horse riding, mountaineering, trekking, paragliding, archery and freeclimbing.
On the slopes of Monte Magnola, which reaches 2220 meters above sea level, there are alpine ski slopes for all needs.
During the summer, excursions to the Sirente and Velino national parks are recommended, to see the local fauna up close, including the Marsican bear, wolf and wild cat, as well as numerous birds of prey such as golden eagle, buzzard, eagle owl, deer and roe deer.
